Advantages of providing access to your data

Barriers to Open Data Sharing

According to the European Research Data Landscape, the primary reasons behind researchers’ hesitation in sharing raw data are:

  • lack of data repositories
  • commercial use
  • misinterpretation and falsification risk
  • lack of recognition
  • time and effort
  • skills needed
  • financial costs
  • legal restrictions
  • data protection
  • ethical concerns (some domains)

RAISE has studied the barriers of data sharing and open science and especially the fear of researchers in losing control of their data or not be recognized for their contribution to open science.

This why it introduced the ” bringing the algorithm to the dataset instead of the dataset to the algorithm ” paradigm.

Data Processing instead of Data Sharing

RAISE’s innovation is that allows data processing instead of data sharing. When a dataset is uploaded, RAISE creates a synthetic sample which is available to users.

The synthetic sample can be downloaded and used by registered users. When they are ready to replicate their research in the real dataset, they can upload their script on RAISE and run it on the real data (experiment creation).

If the experiment is successful, they will be able to download the results.
